Personality: Somewhat withdrawn and occasionally anxious, Sky Dreamer is a kind and gentle dog with a natural talent for healing wounds and sickness among her packmates. Since she was a puppy she has seemed to possess a strong belief in Sky Pack, which is how her name was chosen. Then, in the days leading up to the Big Growl she became troubled by strange dreams and nightmares, and in its aftermath she has even begun to see echoes of those dreams with her waking eyes...

Fire Pack

Name: Gunner
Gender: Male
Appearance: Weimeraner; lean, silvery-gray dog with pale eyes and a scarred muzzle
Position: Hunter
Personality: Gunner is a bitter and often mean-spirited animal. Once owned by longpaws and trained as a bird dog, he was sold when his first family fell on hard times, then resold again and again before finally being dumped at a poorly-maintained shelter, or Trap House, where he nearly starved due to longpaw neglect. To add insult to injury, the other imprisoned dogs left him behind when the Big Growl toppled the building, and he had to fight his way out of the city after he finally dug himself out of the wreckage. As a new member of Fire Pack his rank is just above Omega, and he is eager to fight his way up to the top...

Free Pack

Name: Chase
Gender: Male
Appearance: Lurcher; a tall collie/greyhound mix, fawn with black sable and light undersides, collie ears, and a greyhound's build
Position: Leashed Dog, Pack Leader (unofficially)
Personality: Chase is one of the oldest dogs in the loose association of refugees currently calling itself Free Pack, and thus he is looked to as a leader by most of them. Bred to chase rabbits and foxes by a family of Irish Travelers that used to wander from town to town, he is a very swift and skillful hunter and more comfortable in the wild than most pet dogs. Even so, he is just as distressed by the loss of his longpaws and the suddenly dangerous world he and the rest have been thrown into, and all he wants to do is find a safe place where he and his friends can survive.

Appearance: Labrador/German Shepherd mix; fawn with black sable, folded ears, smooth coat
Position: Street Dog
Personality: Chance was once a typical carefree Street Dog with no one to care for and no one to answer to, roaming where he wished within the city where he was born. In the wake of the Big Growl, however, this streetwise mutt has had to struggle to stay alive in the Destroyed City, overrun now with other desperate dogs and opportunistic, dangerous wildlife drawn in to scavenge the dead that lie amidst the rubble. Even the surviving humans are becoming feral, as likely to eat a dog as to look at one, and the once-forbidding wilderness is beginning to look like a safe haven by comparison.

Foothills

Name: Rufus
Gender: Male
Appearance: Leonberger; large, long-furred dog, dark red with a black mask
Position: Pet Dog, Leashed Dog
Personality: Rufus is a young dog whose family of longpaws survived the Big Growl, only to come under attack by other longpaws as they fled toward the Living City. Though already imposing and fiercely protective of his family, Rufus was powerless to stop the attacking longpaws and fled after being shot by one of them. He has been wandering in the wild since then, desperately lost and alone, and growing weaker by the day.

Name: Scrap
Gender: Male
Appearance: Airedale terrier; tan with a black saddle, wiry fur, and forward-folded ears
Position: Pup
Personality: The Airedale is the largest breed of terrier, and is a formidable hunter and fighter when roused. Scrap, however, is still a puppy, barely three months old and very recently separated from his mother, littermates, and his longpaws during a strong aftershock that shattered the refugee shelter where they had been staying. He still retains his puppy-name because none of the longpaws thought to give him or his siblings new ones in the turmoil after the Big Growl.
